The Award & Award Ceremony

The I.J. Paderewski Award consists of an artistically designed plaque engraved with the laureate’s name, a framed citation of the laureate’s distinguished contributions to society and culture, and Honorary Life Membership in the International Friends of Music Association. The Paderewski Award shall be presented at a special Award Ceremony attended by invited guests. 

The Paderewski Award shall be presented by the President of the IFMA or a designated Representative, and assisted by a Guest of Honor invited to this Ceremony.

The Award Ceremony shall consist of: (1) Introduction of the IFMA and the Paderewski Award for Distinguished, Contributions to Society and Culture, (2) Introduction of the Laureate(s), (3) Presentation of the Award(s), (4) Concert, and (5) Reception.

Laureates shall present a brief acceptance speech upon receiving the Paderewski Award, and may also present a performance (if applicable).

The Nomination Process

  • Nominations of individuals and organizations are made by the National or Regional Nominating Committee.
  • The Nominating Committee consists of 3 members appointed by the National or Regional Board of Directors.
  • Each Chapter may nominate one individual or one organization only.
  • The names of the candidates, together with supportive materials, must be received by the Award Committee a minimum of one year (365 days) prior to the Award Ceremony. The names of candidates cannot be made public prior to the selection by the Award Committee.
The Paderewski Award was established in 1998 by The International Friends of Music Association (IFMA), in collaboration with UNESCO, and the Ignacy Jan Paderewski in Memorium Foundation (Warsaw). The Paderewski Award is conferred to selected individuals or organizations in recognition of their extraordinary achievements or outstanding contributions to society and culture. The Laureates are selected from among candidates exclusively nominated by Executive Members of IFMA, in consultation with experts, public officials, and acclaimed artists.
