February 17, 2013: General Edward L. Rowny Honored with the Paderewski Award for Distinguished Contributions to Society and Culture

On Sunday, February 17, 2013, General Edward L. Rowny (Ret.) received the I.J. Paderewski Award for Distinguished Contributions to Society and Culture at the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Washington D.C. Throughout his life, General Rowny has exemplified Paderewski’s philosophy and actions to promote democracy and freedom through his commitment to public service, education, and the arts. At the age of 97, directs the Paderewski Scholarship Fund to assist young scholars in their pursuit  studies of Democracy and culture  and prepare for public service. This event was hosted by His Excellency Ryszard Schnepf, Ambassador of the Republic of Poland, and was attended by guests from the USA and abroad. The internationally acclaimed American Virtuosi performed a brilliant concert featuring works by Paderewski, Wieniawski, and Chopin. 

Rowny invited all to attend a special benefit concert for the Paderewski Scholarship Fund to take place at the Embassy of Poland on Sunday, April 21, 2013.

The Paderewski Award was established in 1998 by The International Friends of Music Association (IFMA), in collaboration with UNESCO, and the Ignacy Jan Paderewski in Memorium Foundation (Warsaw). The Paderewski Award is conferred to selected individuals or organizations in recognition of their extraordinary achievements or outstanding contributions to society and culture. The Laureates are selected from among candidates exclusively nominated by Executive Members of IFMA, in consultation with experts, public officials, and acclaimed artists.
